Regret that pixie cut? Trying to grow your hair out for an upcoming fancy affair? Find out how to make your hair grow faster – naturally

Whether you regret allowing your hairdresser to get trigger happy with the scissors, or you’re simply dying to be able to get your hair in that pretty updo, many of us have – at one time or another – been in that desperate position of trying to grow out our hair.

And while you may have heard that horse shampoo is Jennifer Aniston’s secret weapon to her luscious long locks (there’s no harm in trying, we suppose!), we thought you may be interested in finding out a few more natural ways to make your hair grow faster. Just remember, Rapunzel didn’t grow her hair overnight, so patience is key!

1. Start with your diet

Having a well-balanced, nutritious diet is an often forgotten-about factor when it comes to hair growth. A diet rich in protein, minerals and vitamins is essential for healthy, strong locks, and vitamin B-complex is a fab hair-growth booster. Make sure you’re packing these in to every meal, and consider taking some supplements.

2. Trim, trim, trim

It might sound counter-intuitive, but regular trims are key to getting your grow on. If you don’t get rid of split ends when they’re only just forming, the strand will split higher up and eventually break. Keep your eye on those ends, and make sure you schedule regular trims – just tell your hairdresser to go easy!

3. Put down the towel

Most of us are guilty of using bath towels to wrap around wet hair. The problem with that is that the hair gets twisted in the fibers of the towel – especially since most of us are wrapping it up far too tight – and the hair gets damaged, causing breakage. The more your hair breaks, the shorter your strands become, and the longer it’ll take to grow it out. Get yourself a microfiber head towel, and wrap away!

4. Don’t over-shampoo

While shampooing does take away dirt, grime and product build-up, it also strips your hair of its natural oils which are there to keep your hair soft, strong and healthy. Dry and damaged hair is far more difficult to grow out as it is far more susceptible to breakage.

If possible, avoid shampooing every day – and be gentle when you do wash your hair – rather make dry shampoo your new best friend.

5. But DO use conditioner

Conditioner won’t make your hair oily, it actually replaces the lipids and proteins that are stripped due to heat and natural damage, so make sure you use conditioner every time you wash your hair. Depending on the quality of your hair, you should also use a hair mask or oil once every one-to-two weeks.

6. Oil it up

Castor oil is a great treatment for hair growth, so make it your friend. Mix with some coconut oil and massage it into your scalp, leaving it on for about 30 minutes. Shampoo it out, and condition away.

7. Put down the tools

Heat tools only add more damage to your hair, so as much as you possibly can, put down the straightening iron and allow your hair to air dry. You’ll be surprised how fabulous it’ll start to look!

8. Dry brush only

Did you know that your hair is more susceptible to breakage when it’s wet? If you’re trying to grow your hair, stop brushing it while wet. Instead, brush it before you wash it and then after it’s dry (if necessary).
