A 30-year-old man was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment this week for raping his mother in Phoenix, near Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday

According to a statement from police, the man first raped his mother, 52, in 2015. When she reported the matter to relatives, he denied it.

Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said the man sexually assaulted his mom again.

“On the second occasion, in March 2016, the victim was again alone with the accused at their homestead when he forcefully dragged and raped her. The victim then reported the matter to the police and the accused was then arrested,” said Zwane.

“The victim was interviewed by the court and she informed the court that she was afraid for her life as the accused was violent. He made several court appearances till he was convicted and sentenced to 22 year imprisonment for rape.”
