The ideal “weight loss pantry’ is an article series dedicated to uncovering what SHOULD be in your fridge (or pantry) if you hope to lose weight in 2018. So much focus is placed on what you shouldn’t eat if you’re dieting, so let’s check out what you should.

Stock up on: Avocado

If you’re looking for a fruit that’s a nutritious, diet-friendly, savoury meal option that’s also seriously tasty and can fill a variety of functions then I’m here to tell you that avocados are your friend.

Avocado (‘avo’ for short) is a highly nutritious fruit that contains over 20 vitamins and minerals, and it’s the only fruit that has such high levels of monounsaturated fat (the very good kind). The only thing to watch out for is that avo is also pretty high in calories due to these high fat levels.

So what are avos good for?

  • You can eat a ripe avo as a ‘hand fruit’ or mash it up with a little salt and pepper.
  • You can take this mashed avo and put it on whole wheat toast.
  • You can use mashed, salted avo as a dip for crispy vegetables – think carrot sticks, baby corn etc.
  • You can make it into guacamole for various Mexican meas.
  • You can put chopped avo into salads, or serve sliced avo as a side on its own.
  • You can also add it to smoothies to increase the healthy fat content.
  • There are even a few ways to use avos in dessert!

Get some avos into your fridge today. They are a wonderful food to eat on a regular basis.
