Deprivation kills motivation

Consistency. That’s where weight loss results come from. The reason most people fail at their diets is that they try too hard to change too many things at once. And they succeed for a few days, then the wheels fall off.

What you need to do to succeed on diet is string together thirty days of solid, diet-friendly eating. It doesn’t have to be perfect, or seriously tough. It DOES need to be consistent though. So what kills the consistency and ultimately your motivation?

In my experience, it’s one thing more than any other – DEPRIVATION

You see telling someone who loves chocolate that they can’t have ANY chocolate for 6 months is like telling a fish that he can’t be in the water. It feels like a death sentence. So what is the response?

Usually we try to follow the ridiculous rule for a while, but when it becomes too tough, the knee-jerk reaction is to eat ALL the chocolate in sight.

Instead, why not embrace a diet plan that allows for a small amount of chocolate once a week and factors in those calories as part of the weight loss plan? Wouldn’t your diet feel easier if you knew that every week on Saturday you could have a couple of blocks of your favourite choccie?

The truth is: A couple of squares of chocolate is not going to damage your diet, but a diet you can’t stick to in the long term will KILL your motivation, and any chance of success.

This is how balance can be achieved while living a predominantly healthy and active lifestyle. You don’t have to be BORING to be on diet!
