An emotional Shashi Naidoo vowed to visit Palestinian territories in order “educate and re-educate” herself about what’s happening in Gaza
The model has agreed to go on the “fact finding” mission following controversial comments she made about the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
The 37-year-old labelled Gaza a “sh**hole” and accused Palestine of trying to annihilate Israel.
During a joint briefing with Palestinian solidarity organisation BDS South Africa, Shashi explained why she has decided to go to Palestine.
“I’m made a very public apology and a part of that apology was to educate myself and to re-educate myself… I’ve been very disappointed in myself for not knowing and being fully aware of what was happening in Gaza and sometimes ignorance can be just as bad as having those thoughts,” she said.
Shashi says she will sponsor the trip to Palestine herself, with some help from her mother
She once again apologised for her Instagram remarks, which she says she copied and pasted from a friend who helped her draft the comments.
“Sorry can’t just be a word it must be an action and my apologies will come in my actions moving forward.”
Shashi broke down in tears when a journalist asked her if she had forgiven herself following the outcry over her remarks.
“Not entirely… I’m working towards that… but in my actions not only can I give myself that forgiveness but hopefully earn the forgiveness of those around me.”

Meanwhile, the SA Jewish Board of Deputies has slammed attacks against Shashi, saying the backlash represents a “triumph of censorship over freedom of expression, a victory for those who resort to threats, insults and intimidation to silence those who express views in support of Israel”
Shashi was forced to hire security to protect her home after receiving death threats.
BDS says it condemns all forms of violence, intimidation and bullying.
