This winter, hair colour trends range from blondes with a dash of rose or orange to browns with cinnamon and even natural black.

Whether you are looking for a subtle update or drastic new look, these are the winter hair colour trends you need to know about in 2018.

Take your skin tone into account when deciding on a colour

Before you decide on any colour be sure to take your skin tone into account. Just because something is trendy, doesn’t mean it will work for everyone.

Not sure how to determine your skin tone? Try the wrist test by looking at the colour of your veins. Blue or purple means you have a cool skin tone, green or yellow means you have a warm skin tone. Avoid ashy colours and platinum blonde if you have a warm skin tone and stay away from golden colours and copper red if you have a cool skin tone.

1. Ice blonde

Say goodbye to golden blonde and hello to ice blonde, possibly inspired by Frozen’s Elsa. Ice blonde is the perfect colour to welcome in the colder weather and looks great on all hair lengths.

2. Rose blonde

Rose blonde takes over from the bright pinks we saw last year for a more subtle work-friendly look.

3. Blorange

Blorange or blood orange hair is a combination of blonde, orange as well as pink. It looks great on all skin tones and if Emma Roberts approves, so do we.

4. Cinnamon

Add a touch of cinnamon with some natural-looking highlights or completely transform your colour. Cinnamon is a toned down version of bright red or blorange and we love it because its warm tone brings out the best in your skin. Plus, if your hair is brown, the regrowth is much less obvious than with blonde highlights.

5. Black

Keep it stylishly simple with a natural black colour, like Demi Lovato. This is best suited to people with a warm skin tone and is the easiest to get wrong of all these winter colour trends, so approach with caution.

Top Tip: Make your colour last longer by using conditioning treatments

Winter not only dries out your skin but can dry out your hair too. Coupled with blow drying and hair straightening and you’ll have a set of unhappy locks in no time. Treat yourself to a regular weekly hair mask and be sure to trim split ends every six weeks.
