Forget the socks and soap-on-a-rope: what many dads REALLY want for Father’s Day is time spent with YOU – followed by whisky and biltong…

Pick n Pay surveyed 350 of its male parent customers and asked them to select the gifts they’d really like to receive this Father’s Day.

The most popular gift was whisky with 28% of respondents selecting this gift, followed closely by biltong (26%).

In third place, evenly tied and each receiving 20%, was a gift voucher, chocolate or a meal out. A Sorbet Man gift voucher was among the most wanted, while many fathers commented that having their family around a table was more important to them.

Socks were the third least favourite gift – with only 6% selecting this option. This was followed by deodorant (4%) and cake (2%) being named the least favourite gift.

John Bradshaw, Pick n Pay’s head of marketing, says that often what fathers really want on the day is to spend quality time with their family. “This was particularly evident through the comments provided in the survey.

“A meal at a restaurant was listed in the top three gift preferences, but it is sometimes better to make the occasion really special by having an amazing Father’s Day meal at home and save money at the same time”

“A meal at a restaurant was listed in the top three gift preferences, but it is sometimes better to make the occasion really special by having an amazing Father’s Day meal at home and save money at the same time. This can be done with minimal effort thanks to the variety of ready-made meals available, ranging from tasty tapas to full delicious meals, snacks, salads and desserts. But the best part is that you won’t have to worry about the cooking, so you can put all the focus on Dad and give him a day you will both always remember,” concludes Bradshaw.
