I’m obsessed with the perky notes and light-weight feel of these products – and how each somehow gives me that extra ‘oomph’ to tackle the madness that is motherhood

Motherhood: All those clichés you hear are true…

From the good stuff (like that newborn smell, baby giggles and cuter than cute toddler talk) to the tough stuff (like sleep deprivation, not having enough hours in the day – and putting yourself last on the ‘to-do’ list).

It’s easy to lose track of ‘you’ when there’s a baby that needs to be changed, a toddler that needs to be fed, a child that needs to be entertained or a teen that needs to be chauffeured around all day, everyday.

But let’s get real for a moment…

As beautiful and all-encompassing as motherhood is, self-care is important and shouldn’t fall by the wayside. In order for you to take care of your kids, you need to take care of yourself. And, you don’t need to escape to the spa to do so (although, that will never hurt!).

I’m knee-deep in the whole toddler & tiara stage (my son is one and my daughter is four) and “me time” is often not even an option. In fact, I’m quite chuffed if I have time for a decent shower and a chance to apply a smidge of make-up.

You can’t pour from an empty cup

But, I’m realising more and more, that you can’t pour from an empty cup. And, part of filling that cup is looking after yourself – your body, your hair and your skin. No… I’m not talking about personal trainers and over-expensive facials and make-overs. I’m talking about small things; like eating healthily, blow-drying your hair (not just throwing it up into a messy bun) and using skin-care products that make you feel ‘looked after’ and pampered.

If you’re with me, but don’t know where to start, I have three skin-care product recommendations from the new Crabtree & Evelyn range that landed on my desk a few weeks back, and have made me feel like a million bucks (and like I have indeed escaped to the spa!).

I’m obsessed with the perky notes and light-weight feel of these products – and how each somehow gives me that extra ‘oomph’ to tackle the madness that is motherhood.

These unexpected combinations have the ability to transform everyday routines into beneficial “me time” rituals. Plus, they are formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates and propylene glycol!

1. Crabtree & Evelyn Pear & Pink Magnolia Hand Therapy

This rich and nourishing hand cream is such a treat! A shea butter and ceramide formula soothes and protects, lightly sealing skin with moisture boosting hyaluronic acid. Perky notes of lush pear mingle with the lemony fresh succulence of magnolias with smooth, pale pink petals to lift the senses.

This hand cream has become a staple part of my morning shower/make-up routine. Just a pea-sized amount leaves my hands feeling silky soft and delicious-smelling all day!

2. Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater & Pink Peppercorn Hydrating Gel

Crabtree & Evelyn had me at pink peppercorn!

Prettily scented with transparent rose petal notes, heightened with sweet spice heat of pink peppercorn and akigalawood, captured from Patchouli – this hydrating gel is absolutely decadent.

I’m usually a body butter kind of ‘gal’ but am so impressed by this ultra lightweight yet intensely moisturising gel that leaves my skin glowing, touchably soft and ‘yummy-mummy’ smelling.

Recommended retail price: R750,00

3. Crabtree & Evelyn Citron Body

This exfoliator makes me think of sunshine – possibly because of it’s energising blend of lemon, honey, and coriander extracts. Using it not only brightens my spirits but also leaves me with pristinely scented, super-soft skin (thanks to rich shea butter, specially encapsulated oils and vitamin C).

Using it in the shower (especially after a night of little-to-no sleep) feels almost as good as a trip to the sun-kissed Mediterranean.
