Pearl Thusi doesn’t talk much about her personal life, so it comes as no surprise that we are only now finding out how her celebrity pals helped her during the difficult period

The actress recently spoke about how former miss South Africa Basetsana Kumalo helped her when she needed it the most.

“I buried my grandmother because of her. I didn’t have money to go bury my grandmother… She bought me and my daughter a flight and hired us a car so that I could lay my grandmother to rest.

“No matter what happens, that for me, is a memory no-one can ever take from,” she told guests at her 30th birthday party earlier this month.

Pearl took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a clip from the party. She is visibly emotional during her speech and gets teary-eyed at one point.

“you, @basetsanakumalo, have been a rock and shield in my life without wavering,” she captioned the video.

Basetsana is not the only famous person to have helped Pearl on her road to fame

During a recent interview on Trending SA, Pearl revealed that award-winning actress Terry Pheto once gave her clothes to wear to public appearances.

“I don’t think I have ever said this publicly… Terry was like a big sister to me, and she gave me like a whole lot of like clothes that I was then able to attend events comfortably with the clothes that she had given me,” she said.

Pearl also gave props to her Kalushi co-star, Thabo Rametsi, who spent hours helping her prepare her audition tapes for a role on American TV show, Quantico.

“I wanna say these things because I don’t want people to ever think that we just get here, or there aren’t people who are influential who help you… I’ll never forget things like that, no matter what anybody does, no matter what fault they commit I will never forget what you initially did for me when I could do nothing for you in return.”
