How to balance your diet: The fitness seesaw

So you’re on a diet, and you know that you need to exercise to get fitter and stronger if you want to accelerate the weight loss AND look really great when the fat is stripped away.

So you hit the tarmac for your first run. You give it ‘horns’ and feel amazing. The next morning you roll out of bed and feel like a truck rode over your legs in the night. What do you do? Many people would go for another run…

I’m going to say that at the beginning, maybe a rest would be a better idea.

You see, that soreness should go away quite quickly, so by day three you’d be fine if you rested on day two. But if you go for a run on sore legs on day two, day three may feel pretty dire. That may lead to taking two or three days off of running, or even discouragement about running in general.

You’re trying to build a lifelong habit with your exercise, so do it in such a way that you feel positive and confident. Don’t put yourself through hell because you think it’s necessary.

Get BALANCE in your pursuit of fitness, and remember that you don’t have anything riding on your running every morning. You’re not a pro, you’re a novice. Take it easy, and build something great over time. You’ll enjoy it more this way.
