‘How to balance your diet’ is an article series all about achieving balance in your diet, and what that looks (and tastes) like. It’s a common phrase, but what does it mean, and how do you do it? Find out here.
How to balance your diet: Embrace your inner frugavore
People like to make claims about what kind of “animal” they are. Most people will say that they are carnivorous – a great (albeit lame) excuse that allows them to eat mostly meat, and almost no veg.
In fact, human digestive systems don’t vary across race, genetic profile or culture. At our simplest, we are FRUGAVORES (we have the teeth, digestive system, mouth size, and saliva to match), which makes our staple foods fruit, vegetables and nuts.
There is no human with the teeth and colon of a lion. This is the scientific and biological REALITY. Just because you enjoy eating burgers and fries DOES NOT make this your body’s preferred diet.
What this all means is that if your diet is not mostly fruit and veg then that’s the first step towards balancing it out. Your health and energy levels will thank you!
