Woolworths opened SAFW with this season’s StyleBySA collections which featured an inspiring showcase of the incredible fashion talent that exists in South Africa.

From the ready-to-wear collections of leading SA designers, slogan apparel with positive messages, to a collection of denim pieces that had been reimagined.

This season’s collection reflects a punctuation in South African history, spurring on the African futurism movement.

The premium retailer made a bold statement with slogan apparel that echoes the hope and positive attitude on the rise; street wear with subliminal messaging that reflects the increasingly positive topics of conversation on the streets. The concept showcases how clothing can be used as a powerful form of language.

The collaborative nature of these collections allows designers to leverage the reach and exposure of Woolworths to make their brands more accessible to local consumers and establish themselves as household names.

The StyleBySA collection by Rich Mnisi, Wanda Lephoto, Thebe Magugu, Young & Lazy and Sindiso Khumalo has seen these designers collaborate with Woolworths in creating the hottest international trends in a local context.

The results of this synergy are garments with powerful messages that question gender roles and ignite nostalgia.

Rich Mnisi

In a pure expression of creativity, 80 one-off denim pieces were RE: imagined by top local designers

A new life was given to pre-loved denim pieces, through the hands of Thebe Magugu, Rich Mnisi, Young & Lazy, and Wanda Lephoto. This collection not only showed off the versatility of RE: Denim but also how fashion is never finished, and is a canvas for creativity.

Keeping things local, the leading South African beauty brand, WBeauty complemented each ensemble with unique looks in the season’s hottest colours and trends. This season’s colour palette gravitates towards the earthy warm tones of spice brights and chalky pastels. Glow – a matured, subdued take on holographic colour – is another trend from the runway that will evoke warmth and turn heads this winter.
