Reeva Steenkamp’s mother June says she has no interest whatsoever” in Oscar Pistorius

She made the comments following the Constitutional Court’s decision to dismiss his application for leave to appeal his 13-year prison sentence.

Speaking to The Citizen, June says is focusing on the Reeva Steenkamp Foundation which her family set up to help abused women.

“I am not interested in Oscar Pistorius, I am finished with that! It’s up to the justice system now – I have no interest whatsoever in him.

“He is not important to me anymore. It has been five years and I have had enough now,” she told the publication.

Pistorius has reportedly run out of legal options following his latest bid to have his sentence reduced

High Court judge, Thokozile Masipa, initially gave Pistorius a five-year sentence for culpable homicide. He maintained throughout his trial that he shot Reeva dead on Valentine’s Day 2013, believing she was an intruder.

But the State appealed the conviction, and it was later changed to murder by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Judge Masipa handed down a six-year sentence for the new conviction, which the State also appealed, saying it was too lenient.

The SCA overturned Masipa’s sentence, and changed it to 13 years.

June says she and her husband Barry are not concerned about Oscar’s latest legal bid

“We’re now concentrating on the Reeva Steenkamp Foundation – it’s going so well and we are going to do great things… It is difficult to raise money but before I die, I want to have a refuge centre for women to get away from abuse.”

Barry is set to undergo heart surgery later this month.

“And that basically comes from when he lost Reeva and had a stroke. He damaged a valve which calcified. But he is going to be fine,” says June.
