Are you on a weight loss plan? Do you often find yourself wishing for a little snack that has a great texture but very few calories? Something that can be sweet or savoury? Something that will satisfy your need for a crunch?

Enter the humble rice cake.

These snacks have a bad rep from the low-carb gang, but I believe that rice cakes are a very healthy go-to snack. They have some energy, a bit of fibre (if you get the right variety), and can be made into a variety of snacks or a whole meal if you like. Plus they are relatively affordable, and lower in calories than bread is.

Some of my favourite rice cake snack toppings: Marmite, mashed banana, peanut butter, avocado.

Favourite meal idea: Make a big tuna salad and use a couple of rice cakes to put the salad on. Gives the salad a lovely texture and increases the energy quotient of the meal.
