Zakes Bantwini’s plans to build a hospital for cancer patients in Kwazulu Natal are well under way

The musician is determined to make sure that cancer victims are not turned away if they can’t afford hospital treatment.

This project is inspired by the singer’s real-life experience with the disease, where he saw his mother fight for her life despite the exorbitant cost of treatment.

He shared the story in a recent interview with Tshisa Live: “Cancer treatment is expensive. I remember the doctors telling my mom’s medical aid that she would stay in hospial even though she had exhausted her funds. It was heartbreaking. How can hospitals turn people away because of money. If you are from a rural area you don’t even have money and now you have to pay serious money before you even start treatment. It is not right”.

In a recent update, Zakes, whose real name is Zakhele Madida, revealed that plans are currently underway to not only have land donated by traditional leaders, but to also commence building in the near future

“This is something I have been passionate about for many years but the ball is rolling now. I will soon be registering my foundation and hopefully soon we can start building.”
