Stock up on: Soups & Stews

One of the keys to a successful diet is to always have a few meals prepared and ready-to-go in the freezer for those days when food preparation seems impossible due to time and commitments.

When you find yourself in this situation you really want to avoid the take-away joint being your only option, and frozen meals do this better than anything else. Pop it out the freezer, defrost and serve.

Some of the best meals you can freeze are soups and stews because they are incredibly nutritious, relatively cheap and freeze really well. You can also make a wide variety of them so you’re not going to get bored.

At home, I have some soup and some stew in the freezer at all times. With a soup you can always add a slice of rye toast to increase the bulk of the meal if you need to, and with a stew all you need is a small portion of brown and you’re on your way to a filling, healthy, and tasty meal.

Some of my favourites: Tom-yum soup, vegetable soup, bean soup, shin of beef stew.
