A 25-year-old attempted murder suspect on Wednesday handed himself over to Port Elizabeth police, after hearing that his arrest was imminent
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said on Wednesday a minibus was travelling in Rensburg Street in Bethelsdorp with three passengers.
Naidu said that as the taxi driver stopped to drop off an 18-year old man, a shot was fired.
“The taxi driver, 26, intervened and reversed in an attempt to shield the teenager. The shooter, an Upstand Dogs member, then fired a shot at the driver before running off,” said Naidu.
No one was injured and two cases of attempted murder were opened.
The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
