Simple ways to keep your ears healthy
Here are a few simple ways in which you can take care of your ears and keep them healthy.
Keep ears dry
Ears should be gently towel dried after swimming or bathing as moisture can make it easier for bacteria to enter your ear canal. If you can feel water in your ear but cannot get it out, try tilting your head to the side and gently tug on the ear lobe. This will help the water to find its way out.
Use ear plugs
Be sure to use ear plugs when you are around loud noises or especially if you work in an environment where there is a high degree of loud noise. Luckily, ear plugs are easy to obtain, are relatively inexpensive and are convenient to carry around with you.
Protect your ears
Always wear the necessary protective gear when working or exercising as this can protect your ear area and hearing ability. For example, wear a helmet if cycling or riding a motorcycle – this can help prevent you from getting a concussion if you fall and hit your head. Note that a concussion could harm your hearing.
Take medications as prescribed
Always discuss side effects of medications with your doctor and ensure that you take the medication exactly as the doctor prescribed.
Discuss your hearing concerns with your doctor at all times and be sure to go for regular ear checkups too.
