Love it or hate it – you can’t avoid it! 14 February is almost upon us, so why not do something special – but super easy and affordable – for that special someone in your life, all from the comfort of your own home.

They may act like they don’t care about it, but your significant other will definitely appreciate their very own DIY Valentine’s Day! Here are a few ways to make a night at home extra special…

Candles, candles, candles

It’s an oldie, but a goodie! Nothing sets the scene quite like candlelight, and without even realising it, you’ve probably got quite a stash of candles around the house. You could either round them all up and place them in one room, pairing your candles with a romantic home-cooked meal or even your favourite rom-com.

Alternatively, turn them into a ‘pathway’ that leads to one special setting. Simple, but incredibly effective!

Focus on them

If it’s a low-key evening that you’re after, stay home, cook your favourite meal (or order in – no one wants to do the dishes!), and add a few subtle hints around your home celebrating your love for your partner.

Printing a bunch of pictures of special moments you’ve shared and putting them all over the house could be a sweet touch, or if you have any red or pink décor, elements, bring them to the fore and gather them together, making them the focal point for the day.

Set up a picnic area in your garden (weather permitting, of course), using cushions, blankets or towels and candles, lanterns or fairy lights. Take it up a notch by adding a theme to the picnic using home décor; you could create a colour scheme (gold and red) or more of a theme (think tropical!), based on items around your house.

Flower power

If all else fails, turn to flowers for a soft, romantic feel in your home. Bring in some from your garden – any will do, even your succulents – or buy some from the shop. Either way, the more, the better!
