The ideal “weight loss fridge’ is an article series dedicated to uncovering what SHOULD be in your fridge if you hope to lose weight in 2018. So much focus is placed on what you shouldn’t eat if you’re dieting, so let’s check out what you should.

Stock up on: Vegetables

If you’re telling people you’re serious about losing weight then I’ve got a question to ask you: Is your diet at LEAST 50% vegetables? If it is, you’ll have no trouble losing weight. If it isn’t, you’re kidding yourself.

Vegetables are the foods that matter when it comes to being healthy and losing weight. They contain tons of nutrients and fibre but very few calories, so they are very good ‘value for money’ in terms of what the human body needs.

The great thing about vegetables is the huge variety available

So many flavours, so many textures, and so many ways to cook them too. You can have cold salads, warm salads, stir fry, steamed veg, boiled veg, roasted veg, raw veg, stew, soups… Pretty amazing really.  (Check out some awesome recipes on

The trick with vegetables is that because they are low in calories you can eat a lot of veggies and stay within your calorie limits very easily, where you can’t do that with starchy carbs or proteins. I always say that 60% or more of your plate should be covered with veggies at every meal if you want to be healthy and lose weight.

Two tips regarding vegetables:

  • One, if you’re cooking your veggies and then covering them in cheese sauce or dressing to make them tastier you’re doing it wrong (the sauce is really counterproductive),
  • Two, if you’re one of those people who says that you don’t eat vegetables because “you don’t like them”, GROW UP AND EAT LIKE AN ADULT!
