The holiday season is upon us…

For those of us on diet, this tends to be pretty daunting. Is it possible to maintain your weight or maybe even lose some weight over the holiday period?

I certainly believe it is! Here are some strategies you can use to take the sting out of Christmas day lunch (and any other big meal you may be ‘forced’ to eat):

1. Plan the days before wisely

If you know you are going to eat a big, less-than-healthy meal on Christmas day then one of the main things to think about is how to create some calorie deficit in the days around that big meal so that the big meal ‘fits’ into your bigger picture.

You see, your weight loss or gain is not determined meal by meal, but more likely on a week-by-week basis. So if you’re having a big lunch on Christmas day, be very disciplined and only eat half a day’s calories on the two days leading up to it. That allows you some real wiggle-room for the big one.
