US Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad is being recognised with a Barbie doll in her likeness, the brand’s official Twitter account said Monday.

“We are so excited to honour @IbtihajMuhammad with a one-of-a-kind #Barbie doll!” the brand tweeted. “Ibtihaj continues to inspire women and girls everywhere to break boundaries.”

Muhammad, who last year became the first American Olympic athlete to compete while wearing a Muslim head scarf, thanked Mattel, maker of Barbie dolls, for including her in its “Sheroes” programme.

“I’m proud to know that little girls everywhere can now play with a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab! This is a childhood dream come true,” Muhammad tweeted.

Other Barbie “Sheroes” have included ballet dancer Misty Copeland, actress Kristin Chenoweth and director and screenwriter Ava DuVernay.
