The actress who plays Reeva Steenkamp in the upcoming Oscar Pistorius biopic says she is honoured to be playing the role
Toni Garnn will star alongside South African born actor Andreas Damm in the controversial new film, Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer, which tells the story of the night Oscar shot Reeva dead on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
The TV movie is set to premiere in the US on Saturday, and will make its SA debut on November 18.
The German model turned actress took to Instagram this week to tell her followers how she felt about playing Reeva.
“It’s hard to find words for how “playing” the beautiful, both inside and out, Reeva Steenkamp made me feel and still does… It was a huge honor, and thank you @anddamm for being the best, first acting partner,” she wrote.
The movie has received major backlash from both Reeva and Oscar’s families
Lifetime, the company that produced the film, admitted last month that the biopic was not endorsed by the families.
The Pistorius family threatened legal action, while Reeva’s parents said they were “horrified and upset” that the film had claimed it would tell the story from her mother June’s perspective.
South Africans also slammed the film, calling it trash.
“The #OscarPistorius movie is trash, I’ll never celebrate a man who shot and killed his girlfriend on valentine’s day NO!!!” an angry Twitter user posted when the trailer was released in October.

The actors playing the lead roles also received flak for their bad South African accents.
But not everyone is upset about the film. Many have said they can’t wait to watch the movie
“Proud of you can’t wait to see it,” an Instagram user commented on Toni’s post.
Another added: “I just watch the preview on lifetime. I’m so watching this.”
Andreas’ followers were just as supportive.
Will you be watching Oscar’s biopic when it airs in SA?
