While it may seem like a lot of effort at first, measuring out food before you eat, can quickly become a part of your daily routine. After a few weeks of practice, youâ??ll begin to train your eyes and brain to recognize what a serving should look like without having to actually measure it. But first, you will need the correct tools to get started so be sure to leave a set of measuring cups and spoons on your kitchen counter as a reminder to use them, next time you get out a cereal bowl â?? for example.

A study in the American Journal of Preventative medicine found that people serve themselves up to 53% more ice-cream when simply given a larger bowl or scooper. And since research shows that people eat about 92% of whatever is in front of them, it pays to know what an appropriate serving should look like. The only way to know this, is to measure what you eat.
