Collect those freebee shower caps they give you at hotels and poke a few holes for the mixer blades. Put them through and cover the bowl with the cap. This will stop the whipped cream or thin batter from flying all over the place.

When you are mixing something thicker and sticky, like butter or shortening, the blades of your mixer often attach to the food and make progress very slow. Simply keep putting the blades in hot water and you will have no more sticking.

Mixing up mince plus all the ingredients for a meat loaf can be a gungy business. Put the meat and all the ingredients into a Ziploc bag. Squeeze out the air and seal. Then knead until it all is thoroughly blended. Shape the loaf inside the bag and then tip it out onto the pan you will be using.
