After extensive consultation with the Masilela family, the producers of Rhythm City have decided to incorporate Dumi Masilela’s tragic death into the exit storyline of his character, Sifiso, to highlight the scourge of violence that is sadly so prevalent in South Africa

Sifiso will be involved in a hijacking, resulting in his death. The viewers won’t see the hijacking, but it will be reported by Shakes. Dumi’s last day on screen will be Wednesday 11 October.

As a special tribute, there will also be an on-screen memorial service on Wednesday 18 October. The episode features Dumi’s real-life mother, Sabatha Magdeline Masilela, and brother, Thabani Masilela, attending the memorial.

“The show’s producers decided to use Sifiso’s exit story as a way to pay tribute to Dumi’s work as an actor and to highlight the tragedy of unnecessary violence that plagues our cities,” says Yula Quinn – Series Producer of Rhythm City.
