Before you waste money buying expensive shelf paper for your medicine cabinet or linen cupboard, head for the dining room and scuffle through the place where you keep your placemats. You will likely find several, if not many, plastic ones that you no longer use. They make good protection for your linens and are easy to take out and clean.
After this, head for the kitchen and see if you have a spare plastic chopping board that has seen better days. Try it for a fit over your basin in the bathroom, hopefully leaving space enough for the taps still to run. This will give you extra space for your curlers while doing your hair, or shaving cream and brush or make up or whatever. When finished with using it stash it away somewhere nearby but out of sight.
