All winter, because of the cold, everyone spends more time indoors than usual, obviously.
The carpets can take a hammering with muddy foot prints, food dropped and wine stains, etc.
A very cheap and easy recipe for a carpet cleaner is:
One part white vinegar to 10 parts hot water.
Clean the stained area thoroughly and then rinse with a damp cloth.
If the area smells “vinegary” put on a fan for a while or open all the windows.
The odour will soon dissipate.

If you catch a spill that has not had time to settle in, a quick squirt of shaving cream can save the day.
Make sure it is the non gel variety.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Soda water is an old favourite stain remover too. Pour it on to the stain and leave for about five minutes and then absorb it with a sponge or kitchen paper.
