Cradle cap, as common as it is, is not always harmless.
If you see a lot of yellow crusting on the little head and it has spread to the neck and ears, it is time to set off to your nearest medical practitioner.
Any cradle cap is unsightly and gives the appearance of neglect.
Gently rub baby oil into the head and comb through the hair.
Leave for about 12 hours and wash out with mild baby shampoo.
Make a paste with 3 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda and 1 teaspoon of water.
About an hour before you are planning to put the baby down to sleep, put the paste on the scalp and wash it off in the morning.
You may need to do this a couple of times.
If your baby is prone to heat rashes, add bicarb to a lukewarm bath – 8 litres water to 1 teaspoon bicarb.
Do not use a towel to dry the child, let him/her air dry, so the healing soda adheres to the skin for longer.
