Celebrities who have been called gold-diggers

For love… or for money… or, simply, for the love of money… these celebs seem to make sure that whomever they are dating / marrying is seriously rich.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s only gold-diggers and wannabes who want to marry famous celebrities or mega-wealthy businessmen.

Believe it or not, there are well-known celebs who are not short of cash and they do the same thing, and they are labelled ‘gold-diggers’ too.

In their fancy shoes, I’d probably do the same – why ‘marry down’ if you can ‘marry up’? And, it’s not just the women – there are famous men, like Nick Cannon and Justin Theroux who are supposedly guilty of this too.

But, what about those who seem to seek out a rich partner every time?

Kimora Lee Simmons (main pic) has often been labelled a ‘gold-digger’ over the years, but, she’s not really. Yes, she has been married twice and both times, to a man who is extremely wealthy. But, her first marriage, to Russell Simmons (net worth $340 million (R4,4 billion)) lasted nearly 10 years and they have two children. She did not marry only to divorce soon after and rake in the cash like some people do. Instead, she took over his fashion business (one of his many ventures) and today has a net worth of $50 million (R647 million) herself. Kimora is currently married to Tim Leissner, a banker who earns $25 million (R323,4 million) annually.

Tiger Wood’s ex-wife, Elin Nordegren has been nicknamed ‘the Patron Saint of Gold-Diggers’ (so funny!). After receiving $100 million (R1,3 billion) in her divorce settlement from Tiger, Elin moved on to another rich man – this time, a coal magnate worth billions!
