Prevent nail infections by keeping your nails healthy

Here are some things that you can do to help promote healthy nails and prevent infections:

Regular trimming of nails

Remember to trim your nails on a regular basis in order to reduce the chances of getting a nail infection.

Use separate nail clipping utensils

If you have a nail infection, it is vital to use different utensils on the uninfected nails when trimming or filing your nails.

Skin around your nails

Avoid trimming the skin around your nails as this can give germs access to both your skin as well as your nails.

Wear shoes

Avoid going barefoot when in public places, especially if using public bathroom facilities or places where germs are likely to be prevalent.

Prevent re-invections

Old shoes that can harbour fungi should be discarded, as this can cause a reinfection.

See your doctor

Consult your doctor if you are concerned about the condition of your nails or are worried that you may have a possible nail infection.
