Burn more calories by doing a power walk

You can beat the midday slump by taking a power walk daily! Dress comfortably and pull out your walking shoes and start walking. It is estimated that a 20-minute walk will burn approximately 75 calories, so you can knock down a few hundred calories if you do this regularly or on a daily basis.

Studies conducted at the University of Georgia in Athens have found that doing at least 20 minutes of low-intensity aerobic activity (for example walking) ‘can give you a 20 percent surge in energy’.  Patrick O’Connor, PhD, a professor of kinesiology and author of the study says “It’s paradoxical: Many people assume that they’ll get tired from exercise. But the opposite actually happens. We’re not certain what the biological mechanism is, but indirect evidence suggests that brain chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin are altered and cause the improved energy.”

So engaging in a power walk has more benefits than just burning calories. In addition to feeling more energetic, it will also help to keep your mind off food as you will be concentrating on getting a workout and not on snacking on unhealthy or junk foods!
