Youth activist Karissa Samuel passed away two weeks ago, and Comedy Central Africa paid a special tribute to one of Trevor Noah’s biggest fans

Karissa got the opportunity to watch Trevor host The Daily Show live earlier this year. The 32-year-old flew to New York in February to watch one of her favourite comedians in action.

She attended the show with a student from her NGO, Rockstart – an organisation that helps local youth get into the creative industry. The trip was a collaboration between Comedy Central Cares, the channel’s charity division, and Karissa’s NGO.

Two months after visiting the set of her favourite show, Karissa lost her battle with cancer.

Comedy Central Africa honoured her in a special way this week.

Before Tuesday’s episode of The Daily Show aired on DStv, a touching tribute played on-screen

The channel’s Dillon Khan told Tshisha Live they were saddened by her death.

“Considering how much she had done for us as a network and for young South Africans, honouring her memory with a short tribute before airing The Daily Show with Trevor Noah – a show and an artist we know she loved very much – was the right thing to do.”
