It’s hard enough winning an award in South Africa, let alone an international one

But these talented SA stars are making a name for themselves overseas, and bagging top honours while they are at it.

South African born actress Charlize Theron won the ultimate prize in 2004 when she took home the Academy Award for Best Actress, for her role in Monster.  

But she is not the only SA star who has people talking abroad.

These local celebrities are also flying the country’s flag high abroad, and getting recognition from international critics

Khabonina Qubeka

Khabonina received a top honour at an international film awards ceremony earlier this month. She won the ‘Indie Spirit Best Actress’ award at the Boston International Film Festival for her role in Dora’s Peace. The movie’s director also won a special recognition award.
