One woman died and eight others were injured on Tuesday morning when three light motor vehicles collided on the R28 in Glenharvie in Westonaria, South of Johannesburg, ER24 paramedics said
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that, on arrival at the scene, paramedics found one light motor vehicle in the middle of the road, the second was on the side of the road, and the third some distance away.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a woman, believed to be in her 30s, lying trapped inside one of the vehicles. Unfortunately, the woman had already succumbed to her multiple fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for her and she was declared dead on the scene.”
Meiring said that three other people from the same vehicle were found lying outside.
“An elderly woman was found to have sustained moderate injuries while a seven-year-old boy and 15-year old girl had both sustained numerous injuries and were in a critical condition,” he said.
The patients were treated and the children were provided with advanced life-support interventions
“Once treated, the seven-year-old was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to Baragwanath Hospital. The elderly woman and 15-year-old girl were transported by ambulance,” Meiring said.
Five other people, from the other two vehicles, were found walking around on the scene, before they were assessed by ER24 paramedics and found to have sustained moderate injuries, he said.
The patients were treated and thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
