The unique tombstone was temporarily removed in order for the “concrete to settle”
Lebohang Khitsane, of Bataung Memorials, confirmed that it has been returned to Westpark Cemetery.
“Yes the tombstone was put back yesterday and the Mafela family are happy to have it re-erected,” Khitsane told TshisaLIVE.
Following the tombstone’s removal, many believed that the tombstone was stolen by thieves and the news quickly caused a stir on social media.
But Khitsane quickly put these rumours to rest.
“It’s a heavy stone – six tons. The worst thing that could happen is that the stone sinks into the concrete. So we have it removed so it can all settle,” he said.
The late actor’s tombstone resembles an entertainment area, with a couch, coffee table and television
Mafela died in a motor vehicle accident.
The accident, which happened at about 10pm, occurred on the M1 North between the Oxford and Houghton Road off-ramps in Johannesburg.
