TIP: You need less than you think

The reasons that many people are carrying more weight than they should be are varied

Things like lack of exercise, too little sleep, the effects of stress and medications, and various other lifestyle factors come into play.

But the biggest issue in the overweight epidemic affecting our world is that people eat too much food. We love to eat, and because we also (conveniently) NEED to eat to live we have the perfect excuse. If you say you’re hungry then eating is justified. But think about it.

How often are you REALLY hungry?

As a society we have convinced ourselves that we need to eat quite a lot of food to lead a normal life. However, a normal life in 2017 is not exactly filled with the physical demands that would require a large fuel intake. Most of us sit down a lot – sometimes for more than eight hours per day. This is not an activity that is very energy-sapping, and yet we often eat even while sitting down, to fuel us for more sitting down.

A normal human being does not require the quantities of food that most of us feed ourselves

If you want to test this, it’s easy. Serve yourself HALF of what you are used to eating at every meal for a week.

See what happens to your weight (it’ll drop) and your energy level (it will probably rise). (Obviously you HAVE TO be eating good quality, HEALTHY foods)

If this works, then you’ve been overeating.

So what do you do now? Assess your meal sizes. Are you eating enough to meet your energy needs? If so, don’t cut out more, but try to be more conscious about how much food you are putting on your plate from now onwards. An average, healthy woman should be consuming 2 000 calories per day. For men, it is around 2 500 calories per day.

Your weight should continue to drop steadily over time.
