Blue summer home looks

“One of the most affordable ways to give your home added character is with interesting accessories, says Schalk Viljoen, visual merchandise coordinator for local linen specialist, Volpes.

Volpes range includes curtains, linen, ceramics, candelabras, lanterns and tea-light candleholders.

Here are some ways to use blue and green accessories in a home to create two distinctly different looks …

Urban chic

If you live in the city and love a simple straight-forward style, opt for graphic patterned accessories.

You could contrast minimal muted hues, like cream or beige, with cool Prussian blue and soothing sea green graphic patterns and stripes with scatter cushions for a cool urban chic look.

Botanical chic

Breathe life into enclosed patios or living rooms that lead out into a garden by bringing the outdoors inside.

You can do this with living plants and nature-inspired décor. Scatter cushions and curtains patterned with botanicals, birds or butterflies are feminine, but in shades of blue and green, they aren’t too girly for shared spaces, like a family living room.

Add subtle nods to nature by placing ceramic bird and bunny ornaments on a bookcase, shelving or on the coffee table.

“What makes your home unique are the things you have displayed in it,” says Viljoen,  “Showcase your personal possessions to reveal your own personality and style, and mix and match your old accessories with new ones so that your home is a personal reflection of you and your family.”
