A 27-year-old woman from Connecticut in the US recently completed her mission of visiting every country in the world – in the shortest time!

Cassandra De Pecol’s last destination was Yemen on 2 February this year, which marked the 196th country on her epic list.

“The citizens of Yemen are really so hospitable and happy. I loved being in their company. They live so simply yet comfortably with the love of their family. Family is very important in Yemen. I’m so honored that Yemen was my last and final country of #Expedition196. The most challenging to get to but one of the most rewarding once in. Zero fears, zero regrets, just respect, acceptance and love (sic),” she posted on her Facebook page.

De Pecol’s entire trip took 18 months, 26 days. The previous record was three years and three months.

The trip required a budget of $198,000 (around R2.6m). De Pecol raised $10,000 (around R130 000) through babysitting, and the rest was through sponsors of the record-breaking trip.

According to reports, she spent between two and five days in each country that she visited, and met with mayors and ministers of tourism to hand over a ‘declaration of Peace’ document on behalf of the International Institute of Peace Through Tourism. De Pecol is one of the organisation’s official ambassadors.

De Pecol filmed her entire journey, and hopes to make a documentary out of it in the near future.

So what’s next for the adventurer?

“This month I will be visiting my 7th continent, Antarctica, thanks to Quark Expeditions, which I’m super stoked about and will of course share my experience with you all! And I have an Olympic triathlon next month in San Diego as well as speaking engagements, the next one being at the Women’s Travel Fest and then at UCONN. Seriously, can’t stay still from here on out (sic),” De Pecol posted on Facebook.

We look forward to seeing where her journey takes her next!
